Bio

Dr. Janna Vice is the Senior Vice President for Academics and Provost at Eastern Kentucky University.  She became the Provost in July 2010, having served as Interim Provost in 2009 and as the Associate Provost at EKU for two years prior.

As Provost, she has responsibility for EKU’s five Academic Colleges; the Graduate School; EKU Libraries; University Programs; Institutional Effectiveness, e-Campus Learning, the Office of the Registrar, and the Office of Academic Readiness and Testing.

In 2013, she was inducted into the EKU Hall of Distinguished Alumni.  She has received awards for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.  In 2012 she was designated as an Honorary Foundation Professor, EKU’s highest recognition for faculty excellence.  A two-time graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, she received her doctorate from the University of Kentucky and completed the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s Management and Leadership in Education.

Serving EKU and the Commonwealth, from 1994 to 2004, Dr. Vice chaired the University Athletics Committee and served as EKU’s Faculty Athletics Representative to the OVC and NCAA.  She served on the Kentucky Board of Education 2004-08, on a Statewide Task Force on Dual Credit 2006-07, and on the CPE-led Kentucky Task Force on World Languages 2006-07.  She also served on the Alice Lloyd College Board of Trustees 1999-2009.  At present, Dr. Vice serves as the convener of Kentucky’s Council of Chief Academic Officers.

As a Professor of Business Communication, Dr. Vice taught professional and analytical writing.  Her research has focused on assessment of academic programs, student learning outcomes, and curriculum design.

Her focus as Provost is on student success and academic excellence, positioning EKU as a learning-centered university.  This focus has led to EKU earning the 2014 CHEA Award for Outstanding Institutional Practice in Student Learning Outcomes.
